Strategy Map Tips

1) Rich ground is on the East. When playing Ronin, Oda, Mori or Shimazu make alliances with your West neighbours and attack the East clans first. Then you can crush the western clans.

2) Don't rely on numerical strength; honour and morale are far more important.

3) All warfare is based on deception.

4) Only use arquebusiers and musketeers in fine weather.

5) Always have a balanced army with archers, spearmen and shock troops a must.

6) Use your ninjas and shinobi frequently, so that you can win provinces without excessive blood wasted.

7) Use Sun Tzu's advices. They are the key to victory.

8) Try to frighten the enemy by a mighty army, so that you can win the province without battles. This also saves the infrastructures in the province.

9) Build temples before embracing Christianity so that you could train warrior monks even after becoming Christian.

10) If possible, don't fight with your daimyo.

11) If you are playing Uesugi attack first Hitachi, then Shimosa.

12) The best lands are all in the East. Examples are Owari, Musashi, Hitachi and Mutsu.

13) But the most defensible provinces are in the West.

14) Your capital province should be away from battle, in a secure area.

15) Know yourself and your enemy and you would not be imperilled in a hundred battles.

16) First secure yourself of victory, and then make battle.

17) Use humility to make the enemy haughty. Tire them by flight. Cause division among them. When they are unprepared, attack and make your move when they do not expect it.

18) Don't train many ashigaru. They aren't true samurai, they rout very easily.

19) If the enemy leaves a door open, rush in.

20) Morale and Honour are very important. Build extensions and upgrade infrastructure to increase these vital factors.

21) To improve loyalty in just-conquered provinces; keep garrisons and shinobis and build improved farmland.

22) In ronin provinces, be prepared to confront high-honour warrior monks. Don't take with you yari ashigaru.
